A reading foundation covering home preparation, everyday care, nutrition, training and life together. These chapters are shared across the collection and provide context before the breed-specific section.

History, profile and breed-specific care topics organized into ten chapters. Browse the list below and read a short history excerpt to get a feel for the writing style.

3. Printable planner

Pages for your records, details, dates and memories within the same PDF. Print only the sheets you need. This is not an app, and fillable form fields are not advertised.

A short excerpt to begin

From the history chapter in this edition: a short reading sample.

The French Bulldog's origin is one of canine history's most socially charged stories, born not from aristocratic ambition but from industrial displacement. When bull-baiting was banned in England in the 1830s, Bulldogs were redirected toward the show ring, where breeders began selecting for smaller, lighter specimens — the so-called Toy Bulldog. Simultaneously, the Industrial Revolution was destroying England's cottage industries. In Nottingham, highly skilled home-based lacemakers — predominantly women earning meager wages — took a particular liking to these miniaturized bulldogs: the dogs were small, ate little, and fit on a working lap. When mechanized mills made their craft redundant entirely, these artisans emigrated across the English Channel to Normandy, northern France, where handmade lace was still valued — and they brought their little dogs with them.
