What is inside the Cocker Spaniel

This edition combines three parts in one file. The total page count includes general content, the breed-specific section and the planner; it does not refer only to breed-specific text.

1. General foundations

A reading foundation covering home preparation, everyday care, nutrition, training and life together. These chapters are shared across the collection and provide context before the breed-specific section.

2. A section devoted to the Cocker Spaniel

History, profile and breed-specific care topics organized into ten chapters. Browse the list below and read a short history excerpt to get a feel for the writing style.

3. Printable planner

Pages for your records, details, dates and memories within the same PDF. Print only the sheets you need. This is not an app, and fillable form fields are not advertised.

A short excerpt to begin

From the history chapter in this edition: a short reading sample.

Long before the Cocker Spaniel became the silky-eared companion we know today, it was a working dog purpose-built for a very specific quarry: the Eurasian woodcock. Spaniel-type dogs have been documented in England since at least the 14th century, gradually differentiating into land, water, and toy varieties. The name 'cocker' almost certainly derives from the breed's specialized role flushing woodcock — a notoriously skittish, heavily camouflaged wading bird that required a small, agile dog with enough nose and drive to push it out of dense undergrowth. By the early 19th century, breeders were already drawing meaningful distinctions between spaniel types by size and function: an 1803 article in The Sportsmen's Cabinet described two predominant kinds — the larger Springing Spaniel and a smaller variety suited to close-quarters game work.
